AECP Level 1 Challenge

My Challenge - Level 1

Create a HIS and HER encouragement/birthday project.

Masculine cards are always a challenge for me, so I decided to tackle it first.  It took some serious planning since I don't really own any Altenew Stamps and Dies that are masculine.  Most of the Altenew stamps I own are flowers.  So...I decided to do a gear theme.  All of Altenew's Certification classes are fun and easy to follow.  I enjoy each one of the ten in Level 1.  The three that influnenced this card are:
  1. Let it Shine - Sparkle tape and Nuvo drops were outlined to create dimension to a card.
  2. Irresitible Inking -Highlighted the use of several different techniques for creating backgrounds and dimension.
  3. Layering 1 and 2 - So many ways to create layers using inks , die cuts and more.  They are  must take classes for everyone (whether you want to be be a Certified representative or just enhance your stamping skills.
Below is the finished card.

Level 1 - Masculine

I used my Silhouette Cameo 3 to create some gears and shapes.  I then cut them out of 2 shades of gray and black.  This gave lots of pieces to choose from for the card.   I needed a background piece so I used my brayer.  I rolled the brayer one at at a time using two shades of gray (Altenew's Limestone and Silverstone from their Rock Collection).  Then I used my acrylic stamping blocks.   I applied Black ink to one side of the block and put it on paper just like I would if I used a regular stamp.  I placed different size blocks in different directions for eye appeal.  Below are pictures taken through the stages of  this card creation.   I hope you like it.

I finished this card with three Red Nuvo Drops (I felt I needed a pop of color so I used the red drops and a red verse.) I also added glitter tape to the side front.  The verse is from Altenew's Painted Greetings set and I stamped it in Velvet.  Then mounted it on gray cardstock.  I popped it up with foam tape.

Altenew offers many different classes on their website (  You will also find most of the supplies I used in this project.  Please go to the site and wander around.  If you need inspiration it is a great place to visit.

Challenge Level 1 - Hers

I wanted to do something totally different for my HERS card.  There are so many beautiful Altenew floral stamp and die sets.  It was difficult to pick one so I didn't I used three.  Flower Vine, Spring Daisy and Sentiment is from Celebration.  There are lots of different colors in this card.  Inks, markers and blenders were used.

Colors used:
  1. Pocketfull of Sunshine
  2. Green Meadows
  3. Warm and Cozy
  4. Red Sunset
  5. Black
Below is the finished HERs card:
Finished Card
My inspiration for this card came from the Layering 1 & 2, Easy Ink Blending and Easy Die Cutting classes.

After choosing stamps, dies and colors  I moved right into stamping the layered Spring Daisy and Leaves.  I used the Tim Holtz Stamping Platform to align my layers.  Alignment is a key to the layers.  It takes practice and I am still learning simple little tricks like using the guides provided with the stamps and also creating a little cheat mark on the paper before going to the next layer.  You can erase those marks after stamping.  Someone once said that "There is only one mistake you can make when creating "NOT TRYING".  Just step in and begin. Every little thing you see is what makes your card, your one of a kind hand made card!!!  Mine certainly aren't perfect but I learn something new every time I sit down and create.
Stamping Platform
Some of the pieces in this card are Die cuts and some are fussy cuts.
Stamped Images
I cut a top piece for this card from White Medium weight (80 Lb.) cardstock.  This topper has a half circle cut into the side.  I wanted to angle my flowers around the opening.  I used my inks (Rouge, Blush and Orange Cream) with a paint brush and water.  I stamped the mini-ink pad on my Teflon sheet and sprayed it with water.  Picked the liquid up on my brush and splattered the piece.  I also used my round blender and ink to blend the area that would show under the topper.  The blending picks up the colors in the flowers.  I assembled the pieces a few times before I liked it and then I glued and taped the pieces down.  The topper and the verse are popped up using foam tape.  Then I added three black Nuvo drops for dimension.

What a fun Challenge this was.  I stretched my skills for sure.  Learning and using what you learn is what Altenew is all about.  Please check them out you won't be sorry!!!  #Altenew; #AltenewAcademy; and

Altenew Academy Seasonal Scene Building Level 1

Seasonal Scene Building Level 1

Framed Scene

Sat March 2, 2019

Today's blog will discuss my creation for the Framed Scene Class #4 taught by Nicole Magouirk.  Five great classes.  I wanted to create a pretty card using Spring colors.

This is my last class in Level 1...Whooo Hooo!!!

The white card base is a standard A2 card (51/2" x 41/4").  I used my brayer and Altenew mini ink for a custom background.  The frame is Gradient Stripes Die, also from  I just die cut it from white card stock and glued the outline of the frame to the card base.  I left the cross lines loose so I could slide flowers and leaves underneath any of the the lines.  You can go back and add a drop of glue to any of these lines after you finish the rest of the card.  I didn't because I felt these were secure enough.  The flowers and leaves are from the Sunlit Flower Stamp and Die set.  Two of the flowers I used two layers of color and one flower is three layers.  the leaves were all stamped with a black outline.  I used Altenew markers to color them in.  These classes were so much fun and I really learned a lot.  I hope you will explore the website for more inspiration.

Create, Create, Create!!!
Have a great weekend!!!

Japanese Mum Stamp and Die Card

This is part two of the Easy Die Cutting Techniques.  The first part is titled Altenew Academy Easy Die Cutting Level 1.  All the info and directions are in the first part.  Below is a Card I created from the Japanese Mum Stamp and die set.  Hope you like it.

Altenew Academy Easy Die Cutting Level 1

Japanese Mum Stamp and Die set

Hello March!  Today is a beautiful sunny day here in Florida.  The last few days have been spent taking Easy Die Cutting Techniques classes.  After the completion I believe that I have one class left in Level 1 of the Altenew Academy.  I learned so much from these classes.  Yana Smakula was the instructor.  I want to say "Thank You" to her.  She taught me so much!  I used the Japanese Mum Stamp and Die set I received as my monthly subscription in Feb.  It is a beautiful set.  You can find it at  The background paper for both cards came from the 6"x 6" Reflections paper pad.  One card I used several different shades of black, gray and  white (Jet Black, Silver lake, Gray Denim and Cloudy Night).  The other card is shades of  Lavender and Yellow (Wisteria, Ultraviolet, Hydrangea, Vanilla Cream and Hazelnut).   Lining up the layers of stamps can be a bit daunting.  Practicing with the layers helps a lot (I am still working on this).  It is well worth the practice to see the dimension the layers create.  I hope this hint helps others learning to use the Build a Flower Sets or layering stamps.  I also learned to schedule prep-days.  My prep-days include stamping and die cutting multiples of the same images in different colors.  It not only helps learn the color groupings, the correct alignment of the stamps but it builds your stash of pre-done items for future cards.  I then store what I don't use in the same storage envelope I use for the stamp and die set.  This does take some time but it is well worth the effort when you sit down to create a bunch of cards.  The cards below are standard A2 (5.5"x 4.5").
I hope you will try The Japanese Mum Stamp and Die Set and all the other products I used in these cards.  You can find it all on
